Turn your video into a blog post – the easy way

Transcription

(This transcription below has only been modified slightly – it’s pretty close to what Google Docs generated for me.)

Many people in predicting 2017 to be a big year for using video to market your small business.

We’ve  seen the growth in YouTube.  We’ve seen Facebook pushing video hard the last 12 to 18 months. But we’re supposed to find the time to do video as well as update your website with blog posts?

Well, there is a neat trick, let me show you how.

What I’m doing here is I’m dictating while I’ve got a Google Doc open. Google Docs comes with a neat trick that’s called voice typing You get to that by clicking on the tools menu and choosing voice typing. Then you can basically just speak to your computer, and Google docs will do a fairly good job of turning that into text for you.

Now there’s a couple of things you need to be aware of.  Firstly you’ll either need to be using a laptop where you’re sitting fairly close to the mic so it can hear you properly, or in this case I’ve got an external mic here that I’m using which means I don’t have to push my face right up against the screen which is probably pretty scary for all of you! But the external mic means that I can still be heard clearly by the computer.

The other thing you need to be aware of as well is speaking reasonably clearly and slowly but not rushing what you’re saying.

It’s pretty useful anyway because when you’re standing in front of the computer in an empty room, talking to your computer the tendency here is probably going to be to rush what you say or mumble a little bit, but if you’re aware that the computer’s trying to turn what you saying to text it kind of forces you to slow down a bit and speak clearly, which is a good thing to be doing on your video anyway.

Now I’d encourage you to use this technique to produce a video as well as text output for your blog,

But even if you don’t plan on using it for video this can be a really neat trick if you just need to write a blog post, or any kind of document for that matter. You can get your thoughts down without having to sit down and start typing, and come back and edit it later.

Now obviously we could put this as a blog post on the website I’m definitely going to come back and have to edit this document if you having a look at what it’s typing now it needs a bit of work, but it’s been started it’s much easier for me to come back and edit this rather have to write it all from scratch.

And I’ll kill two birds with one stone. I’ve got some video that I can upload to my YouTube channel, I can upload to my Facebook page, I can upload it to a Vimeo account if I’ve got one, but I’ve also got text here that I can then publish to my website as well as other places where I might I need to publish that.

That’s my tip for the day! Thanks for watching, I’ll see you next time.
