Introducing NosePlugIn™ for WordPress – Smell your website

Almost Anything is pleased to announce a new plugin for WordPress designed to add an extra dimension to your website – smell.

Advances in technology over the past few years have allowed for heightened sensory experiences. From full body motion control with devices like the Kinnect to Retina display technology, haptic feedback engines and wireless audio we are spoilt for choice in all but one area – smell.

Today we’re announcing the beginning of a new era in technology – with NosePlugIn™ for WordPress your website will be able to convey smells to your users at a software level without the need of expensive additional hardware.

How does it work?

The majority of digital devices – although different in looks – essentially all feature similar components, for example:

  • A CPU
  • Memory modules
  • Batteries
  • GPS chips
  • Camera(s)
  • Speakers

These components – although all performing different tasks – have one thing in common. When they are powered up they generate heat. As these components heat up the materials (at a molecular level) begin to give off a smell – kind of like the smell that food materials excrete when cooking. By triggering components within the device in a specific order NosePlugIn™ is able to combine these component smells and secrete them from the device.

How is the smell delivered?

Some sites on the web, stink. But now an awesome website can be stinky too – in a good way!
Jason Foss – Owner Almost Anything

We’re really proud of this one! We’ve developed a simple and elegant solution to pushing the smell to the user by harnessing the movement from the audio system built directly into the device. By playing sounds – inaudible to the human ear – through the devices speakers causes them to vibrate and push air from inside the device. This air infuses with the smells that NosePlugIn™ is creating and adds a new dimension to you website.

What smells can you make?

Each device is different and the amount of smells your device can make is dependent on it’s feature set, however our team of smelvelopers have come up with a few common combinations:

  • Processor + Battery = Four Cheese Pizza
  • Camera + GPS Module = Fairy Floss
  • RAM Chip(s) = Hot Chips (obviously) – we’re also working on a gravy add-on to enhance this
  • WIFI Antenna + Accelerometer = Sunday Afternoon Rain

Sounds great how can I be part of it?

Obviously this technology is in its infancy – but we’re discovering new component smell combinations every day. We’re running a beta test of the technology.

Over the next year we’ll be deploying this technology into every website we build so check out the blog regularly for an updated list of sites featuring NosePlugIn™

^^ UPDATE: Yeah. Ok you got us. This was an April Fools Day post, but let’s hope manufacturers take note and maybe the iPhone 7 will smell like fairy floss under heavy load (but probably only the pink version we guess!).
